I actually mounted both devices up in my canopy because I didn’t have an existing wall switch on my fan since it was being controlled only through two pull chains on the fan itself. You can replace your wall switch with the GE and then mount the Aeon up in the canopy. And a second device, Aeon Labs AEDSC19103ZWUS Micro Smart Energy Illuminator G2 for the lights. The GE 12730 Z-Wave Smart Fan Control for the fan speeds. Unfortunately there isn’t a combo unit to do that today. It controls Fan speed plus the light, easier to install, use RF wireless remote or in-wall remote controlller and less money Check the documentation that came with the fixture, for proper wiring instructions.UPDATED 3/14/17 There is now an alternative option that I am recommending that uses the new Home Depot zigbee device. This answer assumes the black wire controls the fan, while the blue controls the light kit on the fan. This way the remote module will control the fan (when the switch is in the ON position), and the other switch will control the light. You'll end up with something like this.Īlternatively, you could wire it like this. The other switch will turn the fan on and off. Now when one switch is on, the remote will control the light. Cap off the black and white wire from the output side of the remote receiver module.Connect the red wire from the ceiling to the black wire in the fan.Connect the blue wire from the output side of the remote receiver module to the blue wire in the fan.Connect the black wire from the ceiling to the black wire on the input side of the remote receiver module.Connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire on the input side of the remote receiver module and the white wire in the fan. Connect all the bare or green grounding conductors together.Start by turning off the power at the breaker, and verifying it's off with a non-contact voltage tester.
